The ice cream was so yummy! We all had different flors that totally rocked!! The nondairy strawberry sorbet was the best I have ever had. Lots of strawberries in it.
Well I'll be. Every time we want to go out for ice cream, I suggest heys and my dad says "I don't like it there." How the hell on earth. Craziness. I absolutely adore heyns! Their ice cream is fire. Well, I guess not. It's more "cool" if you get my pun. (I'm not funny I know). Some of my favorites are the snickers swirl, turtle, and classic strawberry. Super creamy and delightful, and an overall cute vibe inside with nice squishmallows and fun cow decor. IT IS CHARMING, FATHER. The people who work there are also great! They are nice and give me an extra big scoop because they are all the GOAT. come to heyns for a great time!!
I love this place! Chocolate cherry and chocoholic delight are my go to flavors but everything is good. I like being able to get two flavors in a kids size cup so it's not too much ice cream but I get to enjoy the different flavors. Sometimes there can be a big line but they get through it quickly and service is friendly. I keep finding excuses to head over there after doing garden work. I've earned it, right?
There's a reason that Heyn's Ice Cream is consistently ranked an Iowa City fan favorite. When we arrived at 8 p.m. on a Thursday night the line was about 20 people deep. Your head will spin trying to select one of their uniquely delicious flavors. I couldn't decide between apple pie, oatmeal cream pie, blueberry cheese, and Kara's creation. Thankfully, I went for two adult scoops and doubled up on the flavor. All for just over $10 my husband and I ate a meal's worth of ice cream-- see the photos of their massive scoops. Heyn's is perfect because they offer both soft serve and hand-scooped ice cream selections (which is a never ending point of contention in our household). Added bonus: we wanted to use a gift certificate but the price of our ice cream didn't exceed the amount on the gift certificate. Instead of telling us that we needed to take ice cream home, the associate crossed out our previous balance and updated it with what remained. I appreciated this because I would visit the establishment again. Kudos to Heyn's! We'll return again and likely bring friends.
